Minnesota Traffic Deaths

Preliminary data shows 154 people died in Minnesota traffic crashes over the summer, compared with 114 during the same period in 2026, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. The State Patrol said speed was a factor in 28 fatal crashes. The agency said it joined nearly 300 law enforcement agencies across Minnesota over the summer to stop dangerous driving and prevent crashes. From Memorial Day through Labor Day, officers and troopers across the state issued more than 51,000 speeding citations, including nearly 70 for speeds of 100 mph or more, according to the State Patrol. Officers and troopers also made more than 1,400 DWI arrests and issued 159 Move Over Law citations during the same period, the agency said. The Minnesota State Patrol urges drivers to slow down, buckle up, put phones away, move over for stopped vehicles, and avoid driving while impaired.
