New Rest Area

The Minnesota Department of Transportation will receive $27.7 million in federal funding to design and build a new rest area along I-94 near Fergus Falls, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation. The funding will pay for a new Class I Safety Rest Area with approximately 63 commercial motor vehicle parking spaces and approximately 60 passenger vehicle parking spaces, serving both directions of I-94. The investment is part of a $200 million nationwide package U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy announced to expand truck parking in 12 states through the Nationally Significant Multimodal Freight & Highway Projects (INFRA) program. The funding covers 14 truck parking projects across the country, with Minnesota’s Fergus Falls project among the largest individual awards in the group. According to the Department of Transportation, the investments are intended to expand public parking for truckers along major freight corridors, with officials citing reduced fatigue-related accidents and improved supply chain efficiency as goals of the program.
