A woman has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for the 2025 shooting death of a Kittson County man inside his home. On July 8, a Kittson County Court sentenced Jordan Hanson to 180 months in prison for the March 13, 2025, killing of Justin Esparza in Hallock, according to Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison’s office. Hanson pleaded guilty May 28, 2026, to second-degree felony murder in Esparza’s death. Prosecutors say Hanson shot Esparza in the head at his home using his own handgun, then left in his truck and took his dog before she was arrested. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, the Kittson County Sheriff’s Department and the Hallock Police Department investigated this crime.
