An 85-year-old Miltona woman died Thursday morning after a fire broke out in a detached garage with living quarters in Miltona Township, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said. 85 year old Bonnie Johnson, of Miltona, was pulled from the burning structure located near Co. Rd. 64 NE before deputies and medical personnel arrived. Responders performed life-saving measures, but Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene. The sheriff’s office received a 911 call at 10:11 a.m. reporting the fire. The caller told dispatchers a woman had been removed from the garage but was unresponsive and not breathing. The Miltona Fire Department and Parkers Prairie Fire Department put out the fire. The fire started in the living quarters portion of the garage, which sustained extensive damage. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota State Fire Marshal.
