A driver was found unharmed following an extended search after a vehicle collided with a train early Sunday morning, September 6, near the intersection of State Highway 55 and 130th Street, according to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office. The sheriff’s office said it received a report from Canadian Pacific Railway at approximately 1:19 a.m. regarding the collision. The initial report indicated the incident occurred in Douglas County, but responding agencies determined the collision occurred in Grant County near 130th Avenue. Deputies from the Grant County Sheriff’s Office and Douglas County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area. The vehicle was located approximately two-thirds of a mile from the point of impact and was towed to a secure location, according to the release. Deputies worked to determine whether anyone had been in the vehicle at the time of the collision. The investigation determined no one was inside the vehicle at the time of the collision. According to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, a passenger reported that both individuals had attempted to remove the truck from the railroad tracks but were unsuccessful before the two individuals separated. Due to concerns for the driver’s safety and the circumstances surrounding the incident, a coordinated search was conducted using drones, a K-9 team, and ATVs, the sheriff’s office said. Investigators also attempted to use GPS information from the driver’s cell phone, but those efforts were unsuccessful. After an extended search, the driver was located and found to be unharmed, according to officials.
