A Becker County man has been sentenced on multiple charges after a domestic dispute. On May 5, 2024, Becker County sheriff’s deputies responded to a residence in Osage for two 911 calls regarding a domestic disturbance. The victim stated that an argument had escalated with William Boyd Barton III, which led to a physical altercation. Barton came behind her while she was doing dishes, pushed her to the floor and began hitting her. When things calmed down, she told one of her children to call 911. While speaking to dispatch, Barton took the phone and smashed it. A child had called first stating that their mom and dad were fighting; however, the call was interrupted by the victim stating that everything was fine. The second call came from a passerby stating that she was with the victim and the children as Barton had been hitting her. When deputies arrived, the victim stated she had left the residence with her children to call 911 because the phones had been smashed. Barton was sentenced on Nov. 13 for illegal gun possession, interfering with a 911 call and domestic assault. He was sentenced to 180 days in jail and five years supervised probation.
